Castles, medieval towns and the legendary Romantic Road from Frankfurt to Munich
Discover some of Germany’s most beautiful historic towns, magnificent castles and romantic landscapes on this carefully designed self-drive journey from Frankfurt to Munich.
Begin in Frankfurt before travelling south to Heidelberg, where castle ruins rise above the Neckar River and one of Germany’s loveliest old towns. Continue to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a remarkably preserved medieval town of cobbled streets, colourful houses, towers and complete city walls.
From Rothenburg, follow the most attractive sections of Germany’s legendary Romantic Road through Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen before reaching Augsburg, one of the country’s oldest cities. The landscape then changes as you travel through Landsberg am Lech and the Bavarian countryside towards Füssen and the Alps.
The fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau provide the spectacular finale before your journey concludes in Munich, the lively Bavarian capital.
